Thai Society for Pediatric Urology (TSPU)
?History of TSPU
The Thai Urological Association under the Royal Patronage (TUA) was established in July 1988. ?Since then the Society of Urolithiasis, the Society of Oncologic Urology, and the Thai Continence Society (ThCS) were established on behalf of the TUA. Pediatric urology in Thailand was initiated and developed by some urologic masters in medical schools including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samrit Laornuan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Ariyaprakai, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumitr Anutrakulchai, and Clinical Prof. Dr. Phichaya Sujijantararat.
Dedicated urologists who worked in university and provincial hospitals organized meetings with the purpose to exchange knowledge about treating, teaching, and researching in pediatric urology. This urological team also made the First Refresher Course in Pediatric Urology in Thailand in September 2015, at The Medical Association of Thailand. That successful meeting was followed by continued collaboration over the next year and culminated with the agreement to form their own society on the final day of the TUA Annual Meeting in July 2016, at the Empress Hotel, Chiang Mai.
The Thai Society for Pediatric Urology (TSPU) was born on September 24, 2016, as an official scientific society of TUA. ?The first committee meeting was held on December 23, 2016, in Pramongkutklao Bangkok.
?Message from The Chairman of TSPU
TSPU was founded by the urologists who had the dream of advancing the medical knowledge and treatment of pediatric patients with urologic conditions. They wished to raise the quality of pediatric urology in Thailand to an international level. The goal was for pediatric patients with urologic problems to be healthy and to have a better quality of life.
In my opinion, the point of view and flow of modern medicine is challenging and continually changing. Beyond the scope of the diseases, Thailand is faced with other complex problems such as economic status and a unique social pattern. We must keep learning and adapting to the changing world. I hope that in the future, as the TSPU matures we embrace new technology and treatments culturally and socioeconomically appropriate to Thai society.
I highly value the importance of all members. We will work together with understanding as close friends and as in the same family for our happiness and work-life balance. TSPU will work on behalf of the TUA and with support from the Thai Continence Society (ThCS).
I insist that I and our members will mindfully lead TSPU to fulfill our vision and to help all children have better health and quality of life.
I would like to give a warm thanks to our present members. I cordially invite my urology colleagues to join and to be new members of TSPU, so that we may share knowledge and experiences together. Thank you for visiting the TUA website and the TSPU section.
With Love and belief
